Desperate Housewives is an American television comedy-drama series created by Marc Cherry, who also serves as show runner, and produced by ABC Studios and Cherry Productions. Executive producers, as of the fourth season, are Marc Cherry, Bob Daily, George W. Perkins, John Pardee and Joey Murphy, David Grossman, Larry Shaw and Sabrina Wind.

The setting of the show is the street of Wisteria Lane in the fictional American town of Fairview in the Eagle State. It follows the lives of a group of women, seen through the eyes of their dead neighbor. They work through domestic struggles and family life, while facing the secrets, crimes and mysteries hidden behind the doors of their—at the surface—beautiful and seemingly perfect suburban neighborhood.

The show features an ensemble cast, headed by Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Van de Kamp and Eva Longoria Parker as Gabrielle Solis. Brenda Strong narrates the show as the deceased Mary Alice Young, appearing sporadically in flashbacks or dreams.

Since its premiere on ABC on October 3, 2004, the show has been well received by the critics as well as the audience. The show is a multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award winner, and in April 2007 it was reported to be the most popular show in its demographic worldwide, with an audience of approximately 120 million.

Susan Mayer

Susan found herself involved in a rather complicated and at times frustrating love-pentagon with ex-husband Karl, Mike, her newest love interest Dr. Ron McCready, and neighbor/nemesis Edie, that culminated in Edie burning down Susan's house after Karl rejected her for Susan. Susan ultimately rejected Karl in order to reconcile with Mike, only to have Mike be the victim of a hit-and-run at the hands of a new friend of both Bree and Susan, a dentist named Orson.

Lynette Scavo

Lynette struggled with her fast-track career in advertising and her husband Tom's growing resentment. Tom was upset that Lynette got him fired (she was upset that she was stuck at home while he had a career). Lynette reluctantly got her husband a job at her advertising agency but when her boss forced her to help him write sexually provocative instant messages to his wife, her boss blamed Tom for the messages when his wife refused to believe her husband had written them and demanded that he fire whoever was the real writer. When their boss threatened to reveal incriminating information about Tom, Tom punched the boss, knocking him out, and was fired. Lynette was then informed by her boss that Tom had been making regular trips to Atlantic City. Lynette thought her husband was having an affair but then found out he was actually visiting his other child, whom he'd fathered during a one-night stand before he married Lynette. The child's mother demanded eleven years in back child support, which Lynette and Tom could not afford. To get her to go away, they decided to pay her a large sum of money in exchange for signing away all child support claims. The single mother instead used the money to put a deposit down on a home near Wisteria Lane, to be closer to Tom.

Bree Van de Kamp

Bree struggled with being a widow and, after learning George had murdered her husband, stood back as George committed suicide in a desperate bid to guilt Bree into loving him. The revelation that George murdered Rex drove Bree to drink, which her son Andrew used to try to become emancipated from Bree (and coincidentally get access to the trust fund Bree's parents had set up for him). Bree countered by outing her son's homosexuality to her father and stepmother, resulting in them abolishing the trust fund. At the same time, Bree and Justin (Andrew's boyfriend) met and talked, leading to Bree realizing how wrong she was to condemn her son for his homosexuality. Bree sought to bridge the gap between mother and son with the help of her AA sponsor/boyfriend, who himself was a reformed sex-addict, and whom Andrew seduced into having sex in order to spite his mother. Andrew's actions made Bree think he was a sociopath and led her to abandon him outside of town. Andrew gloated that "he won" and that his evil actions towards his mother was all part of a plan to make Bree hate her son, since in Andrew's mind it was better to make Bree hate him for being evil and cruel towards her than being hated by his mother for simply being gay. Bree responded by telling Andrew that she never stopped loving him unconditionally until that moment, at which point Bree told her son that so long as he allowed himself to be consumed by hatred for himself and his mother, that she can't give him unconditional love. After Danielle ran away with her boyfriend Matthew Applewhite, Bree admitted herself into a mental health facility. Upon hearing that Matthew was in fact a murderer, Bree escaped from the hospital, eventually managing to save Danielle from Matthew whilst he held a gun to her head. The season ends with Bree accepting flowers from Orson Hodge, whom she invites into her home.

The family had fled to Fairview when Caleb was accused of murdering Matthew's on-again/off-again girlfriend and held Caleb as a prisoner in the Applewhite family's basement. In spite of Betty's demands that the family not interact with the neighbors, this became hard when Caleb slipped out of the house and broke into Gabrielle's house, causing her to miscarry when he scared her and she fell down the stairs. Matthew began dating Bree's daughter Danielle. In the end, Betty discovered that it was Matthew, not Caleb, who had murdered Matthew's ex-girlfriend. But by the time she figured out the truth, Danielle had run off with Matthew and the bitter goodbye letter Danielle left Bree had caused Bree to check herself into a mental health facility. When Betty got hold of Bree and warned her that Danielle was in danger, she fled the facility and confronted the two. Bree told her daughter the truth about Matthew, but her daughter refused to believe her. When Bree tried to prevent the two from leaving, Matthew pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot her. Mary Alice Young

Mary Alice's widowed husband Paul, meanwhile rode to Wisteria Lane to find his son Zach and deal with the possibility that Zach was Mike's biological son. Complicating things was the return of Felicia Tilman (Harriet Sansom Harris), Martha Huber's sister. Felicia alerted the frail Noah Taylor (Deirdre's father) of the existence of Zach and Noah decided to leave his entire empire to Zach. Felicia was angry that Mike had not murdered Paul and began a harassment campaign that culminated in her severing several of her fingers and draining enough blood from her body to create a bloody murder scene and frame Paul for "killing" Felicia. From jail, Paul asked Zach to ask Noah to provide money for Paul's defense. Noah refused, and chided Zach for being a weakling, saying he no longer thought Zach deserved his empire and planned to change his will. With Noah egging him on, Zach turned off the respirator which had been keeping Noah alive and inherited the entire estate. Realizing his newfound wealth, Zach ended the season by telling his increasingly agitated "father" (who had lied to Zach about murdering Mrs. Huber) that he wouldn't be able to visit him in jail for some time and coolly requesting Noah's assistant get him a new cell phone and number so his father could not contact him, apparently having adopted the requisite attitude for running the empire.

Martha Huber

Martha Huber (Christine Estabrook) lived at 4350 Wisteria Lane. She first appeared in the pilot episode as a nosey neighbor who was the first to discover Mary Alice Young’s suicide. After hearing a loud sound from her kitchen, she went to the Young house on the pretence of returning a borrowed blender, and found Mary Alice dead.

When Edie's house burns down, Martha discovers a measuring cup that does not belong to Edie in the ruins. When she snoops through Susan's groceries and discovers a new measuring cup, she jumps to the conclusion that Susan burned Edie's house down in order to kill Edie and cease her advances towards Mike Delfino. Martha, who was undergoing financial difficulties of her own due her husband's death and her mother's hospitalization, consequently blackmails Susan. Susan and her daughter Julie break into Martha's home, steal the measuring cup and destroy it. On a visit to her sister Felicia’s home, Martha discovers that "Mary Alice's" name is Angela Forrest, and that she stole a baby in Utah and moved to Wisteria Lane to escape her past. Martha decides to solve her financial difficulties by blackmailing Mary Alice by sending her a letter. After Mary Alice receives the letter, she commits suicide. The housewives of Wisteria Lane find the note in Mary Alice's clothing and give it to Paul Young. He hires a private eye/hitman to discover who sent the note and to kill whoever sent it. Paul discovers that Edie has the same stationery as the blackmail note, and a misunderstanding ensues until it becomes clear that Edie stole the stationery whilst living with Martha.

Paul confronts Martha at her home, and Martha explains that she was desperate for money and that Mary Alice killed herself because of "what she did to that poor baby", Zach Young, whose true identity is Dana Taylor. In a rage, Paul kills Martha by bludgeoning her with his own blender and then strangling her. He then proceeds to bury her body next to a forest hiking trail.

Martha Huber makes no more appearances after season one until finally in season 5, when she reappears in a flashback; gossiping about finding Mary Alice’s body

Felicia Tilman

Harriet Sansom Harris as Felicia Tilman. Felicia Tilman (Harriet Sansom Harris) first arrives on Wisteria Lane in the eleventh episode to aid with the search for her sister Martha Huber, who has gone missing. However, as Felicia informs Edie Britt upon her arrival, she knows psychically that her sister Martha has been murdered and the only reason she has come to Wisteria Lane is to discover who is behind her sister's murder.

After finding and reading Martha's journals, Felicia discovered that Martha was blackmailing Paul and Mary Alice Young because they had bought a baby named Dana from drug addict Deirdre Taylor and then moved to Fairview and changed the baby's name to Zach Young. Felicia then realized that it was Paul who had murdered his sister as he had obviously found out that Martha was blackmailing Mary Alice and wanted her to keep quiet about his secret. After revealing that she knows everything, Felicia tells Paul to get out of town for good or she will expose both Zach's true identity and the fact that he murdered Martha. Paul agrees to go but Felicia then informs him that Zach shall be staying with her from now on. Felicia then informs Zach that his father is not planning on coming back and that he shall being living with her. This then results in Zach attacking Felicia with a hockey stick which causes Felicia to fall down the stairs, causing severe injury to her neck.

In season two, Felicia has been discharged from the hospital, but is still badly bruised and wearing a neck brace. Mike goes to visit Felicia to see if she knows where Zach is, as he has recently disappeared after failing to murder Mike. Felicia informs Mike that she does not know where Zach is and that she herself is going back to Utah for a few months to recuperate. Felicia then returns to Wisteria Lane a few months later as the nurse to Noah Taylor (father of Deirdre, and Zach's legitimate grandfather). Both Felicia and Mike comfort Zach after hearing the news that Paul has been killed, as Noah instructed Paul to be arrested and then killed in the back of an armored truck. However, Paul is revealed to be alive.

This results in Felicia planning her final act of revenge against Paul. After sneaking into his home through the backdoor, Felicia searches, locates and steals the spare key to Paul's house. Upon discovering her in his kitchen, Paul instructs Zach to throw out all of their food as Felicia may have tried to poison them both. Felicia then calls the police from her home and reports that Paul has been threatening her. Whilst phoning the police, she is in the process of pumping large quantities of her own blood from her body. The police inform Felicia that no action can be taken against Paul by just making threats, to which she replies that she will just have to deal with the problem herself. That following evening, Paul walks into his kitchen only to slip and discover blood on the floor and on the kitchen walls. The police quickly come upon the scene and place Paul in handcuffs when they discover two of Felicia's fingers in the trunk of his car. Whilst Paul is escorted to prison, Felicia escapes to the mountains and retreats to a log cabin where she checks in under the alias of her dead sister "Mrs. Martha Huber".

Zach Young
Zachary "Zach" Young, formerly Dana Taylor (Cody Kasch) is the mentally unstable adopted son of Paul and Mary Alice. Zach's birth parents are Deirdre Taylor and Mike Delfino. However, Mike was unaware that Deirdre had had his son until One Wonderful Day, the final episode of the first season.

Zach had been missing ever since he held Susan hostage until she saw him in a park. She bought him lunch and told him that she wanted to help him, until he said he hoped he and Julie would reconcile. Susan, visibly shaken by this, suggested he go to Utah and find Paul who Zach felt was his father. Susan also gave him money to get there. Months later, after Felicia Tilman framed Paul Young for her murder, Paul begged Zach to ask Noah Taylor for money to pay a lawyer, claiming it was for a car. Noah doesn't believe him and told Zach that he would not inherit his fortune because of Zach's supposed lack of bravery. Wanting to prove him wrong, Zach turned off Noah's respirator, and found that he had inherited a vast fortune and no longer wanted anything to do with Paul Young. Zach moved to his grandfather Noah Taylor's mansion.

Zach was unseen for the first ten episodes of Season Three, but appeared in Not While I'm Around, as Gabrielle's secret admirer. Zach was semi-stalking Gabrielle Solis, sending her flowers, a dress and an expensive bracelet, revealing himself to Gabrielle when she met him at a restaurant. Zach tried to impress Gabrielle with luxurious gifts and mentioned his new wealth, including a chateau in Switzerland unsuccessfully. So Zach made sure Gabby's latest boyfriend dumped her, claiming she was too old. She was upset and got drunk. When she woke the next morning and found herself in bed with Zach. He claimed that they had sex and Gabrielle couldn't remember the evening's events. Zach used this as an excuse to assume an escalation of their relationship. Gabrielle asked Carlos to scare Zach off but Carlos discovered that Zach is so well-endowed that Gabrielle could not possibly forget sleeping with him and told Gabby. Gabrielle lectured Zach about how not to behave towards his friends and told him to leave her alone after he proposes to her at the Pizzeria. She told him that she didn't want any kind of relationship with him so he went off in a strop, telling Gabrielle that when she's middle aged and alone, she only have herself to blame.

Paul Young

Mark Moses as Paul Young.
Paul Young, formerly Todd Forrest (Mark Moses) is the widower of Mary Alice Young, the show's narrator. Many years before the beginning of the show, he helped his wife dispose of the body of Deirdre Taylor after Mary Alice killed her. After Mary Alice's suicide, Susan gave Paul a threatening note that she found in his wife's personal belongings. He hired a private investigator who discovered that Martha Huber sent the note to her, and she felt no remorse for causing Mary Alice's death, saying she was a horrible person), he murdered her. Paul planted Martha Huber's bracelet and ring in Mike Delfino's garage to try to frame him. With the help of Martha's diaries, her sister Felicia Tilman discovered that Paul and Mary Alice had murdered Mike Delfino's former fiancee Deirdre. Mike kidnapped Paul, intending to kill him, but spared his life when he realized that Zach, Paul's son, was actually Deirdre's child and therefore Mike's son.

Felicia Tilman, however, was still intent on making Paul Young pay for her sister's death. Felicia planned to inform Noah Taylor about Paul's involvement in the murder of Noah's daughter Deirdre, hoping that Noah would take justice into his own hands. Her plan failed, however, when Zach Young blackmailed his grandfather into sparing Paul. She moved back onto Wisteria Lane and terrorized Paul. After Paul lost control and attacked her in front of several witnesses, she seized her chance and faked her own murder by cutting off two of her fingers which led to Paul being arrested and subsequently abandoned by Zach after he inherited his grandfather's fortune and realized that Paul was responsible for Martha Huber's death.

In season three, Paul is no longer a main cast member and did not even make a guest appearance until episode 11, when Mike Delfino encountered him in prison. Paul, whom Mike has little or no memory of, tells him that he believes Mike is innocent of the murder of Monique Polier. Furthermore, Paul pays two inmates to attack Mike and then rescues him in order to gain his trust. Paul did this because he needed a favor from Mike: to ask his biological son (and Paul's adoptive son) Zach to visit Paul in prison. Zach agrees to come and visit Paul, but once again, Zach refuses to help him as he knows Paul is interested in using his money to try and locate Felicia Tilman, who has gone into hiding.

Dylan Mayfair

Lyndsy Fonseca as Dylan Mayfair.
Dylan Mayfair (Lyndsy Fonseca) is Katherine's daughter, adopted from an orphanage in Romania after the death of the real Dylan, daughter of Katherine and her first husband Wayne Davis, and named after/passed her off as the real Dylan when Katherine returned to Wisteria Lane, although Dylan has no memory of "her" past life. Dylan, her mother Katherine and her stepfather Adam move into Wisteria Lane and it is revealed that Katherine and Dylan lived there twelve years ago. Dylan finds a note that Katherine threw into the fireplace, which implies that Katherine killed Dylan's real father. Throughout Season 4, she unearths more surprising news about her past. She and Julie participate in the Founder's Day Ball.

One day, Dylan is driving, and a police officer pulls her over for speeding. Later, she finds out he is her father, Wayne, who she always thought had died. Wayne asks Dylan not to tell Katherine that they have met. Dylan meets Wayne a few times for dinner, telling Katherine that she's out on a date. Katherine follows Dylan one evening and discovers the truth. In fact, that night Dylan and Wayne resolve to tell Katherine that they have been meeting. When she hears the news, Katherine pretends she is no longer afraid of Wayne - but keeps a gun hidden under the counter. Wayne later discovers that Dylan is not his biological daughter. He realizes this after watching home videos of Dylan when she was young. Most striking is the fact that while his daughter had a scar from a bike accident that needed 11 stitches but Dylan's skin is unmarked. Katherine has no choice but to tell Dylan the truth about all the secrets she has kept her and she ran off when her dad came back with a gun.

Katherine says that Wayne abused her. She reported him to the police twice but because Wayne was a police officer, they "lost the paperwork" the first time. The second time, a policewoman advises Katherine to leave town so she packs her things and leaves with her daughter. Eventually, Wayne finds them but Katherine has gone out for the evening. When she returns, Mary Alice (who was babysitting) tells her that Wayne came by and gave Dylan a bike and a doll, which the little girl wouldn't let go of. Katherine takes the doll and puts it on top of a bookcase. Wayne visits again and they have a fight, only ending when Katherine hits him with a candlestick so he leaves. Katherine and Lilian have a drink together and Katherine falls asleep on the couch, waking up when she hears a crash. She rushes upstairs and finds Dylan under the bookcase where Katherine had hidden the doll. She is dead. Katherine can't go to the police because Wayne will find a way to pin Dylan's death on her. She buries her daughter in the woods. She flies to a Romanian orphanage and adopts a girl who bears a striking resemblance to Dylan. The girl's biological mother had died in childbirth and her father had been murdered.

After the five year jump in the Season 4 finale, Dylan leaves a message for Katherine saying she has just returned from Paris, where her fiance proposed under the Eiffel Tower. She has married a man named Bradley and the two of them have a baby.

Season 2

Mary Alice was the first housewife to move to Wisteria Lane, fifteen years before the show's pilot episode (the day Mary Alice killed herself). In the second season finale, Mary Alice appeared in the episodes in various flash backs, describing how she met the major housewives, the first character she met was Susan. Mary Alice rescued Susan after she locked herself in her moving van. The second character she encountered was Bree, who came to the Youngs house, with Andrew and Rex in tow. She made Andrew apologize for stealing a garden ornamental frog.

She met Lynette several years later. Lynette and Tom were arguing over how Lynette was expecting twins and that it was completely okay for Lynette to punish Tom for not telling her that his family had eight sets of twins over three generations. Gabrielle was the final housewife to be greeted by the group. She and Carlos were only wearing underwear as they had just had sex when Mary Alice, Susan, Lynette and Bree walked in.

episode 1 Plot

Minutes after Mike parks his car in the driveway, Susan is still in Mike's house with Zach who is holding her hostage at gunpoint. He is waiting to kill Mike because he thinks he killed his father, Paul. When Mike comes home, Susan tackles Zach. In the resulting confusion, Susan trips and falls, the gun goes off harmlessly and Zach runs off. At the hospital, where Susan is being treated for the lip she accidentally bit, Julie hears Mike giving police a different version of events, one that downplays Zach's murderous intentions. Julie tells Susan and she confronts Mike about it. He admits he doesn't want to press charges. He tells her about how Mary Alice and Paul killed Deirdre because of Zach. He's interrupted by a call from the police -- they've just found Zach. He's dead. Since Paul is missing, Mike and Susan go to the morgue to identify his body. Only it's not Zach. When Susan sees Mike's reaction, she realizes what he was about to tell her - Zach is his son. She freaks out and leaves him there. She shows up at his house later to tell him that she's so happy he has a son since he always wanted children. But she can't let Zach near Julie and so she decides they can't move in together. She runs off in tears.

John shows up at Gabrielle's house with a suitcase -- he's ready to move in and start a life with her and the baby now that Carlos is in jail and knows about their affair. But she's still mad at him for spilling the beans and throws him out. Gabrielle visits Carlos in jail and tells him she's sorry and she wants to start over. He tells her he wants a paternity test. She fakes a test that says he's the father and is surprised when he still isn't happy. He says all he asked for was for her to be faithful and she claims that Carlos tricking her into getting pregnant was far worse than her affair with John. "We're not very nice people are we?" Carlos asks. Though Gabrielle agrees, she says, "at least we're still rich." The two nod sadly.

Bree tells her friends she can't fall apart after Rex's death. She has to stay calm to deal with his emotional mother, Phyllis. The women see an example of this when Phyllis spastically yells Bree's name out the window of a speeding taxi cab.  When she starts emphasizing how happy Rex's life was before his marriage, including requesting that he be buried in a hideous prep school tie, Bree tells her to say what she really means. Phyllis tells Bree that she ruined Rex's life when she married him. Bree snaps and bans her from the funeral, until Andrew and Danielle beg her to reconsider. Bree relents and Phyllis apologizes to her and all is well. Bree introduces herself to new neighbor Betty Applewhite and her son Matthew, asking Betty if she can play the organ at Rex's funeral since Betty is a former concert pianist and their organist is on vacation. Betty agrees and tells Bree "Us widows have to stick together," although Betty reveals after the Van de Kamps leave that the entire story of Betty's widowhood is a lie to cover their real identity. At the funeral, Bree sees that Rex is wearing the hated prep school tie and not the Ralph Lauren tie she picked out. "Don't close that coffin!" she orders and in full view of the entire church, demands Tom's tie and props up Rex's body so she can put Tom's tie on him instead.

At her job interview, Lynette tries to make a good impression on Nina, who doesn't approve of anyone who takes time off to be with their kids. Lynette assures her it won't be a problem. But then the day of her follow-up interview, Tom throws out his back and can't take care of baby Penny, so Lynette forced to take her to the interview. She manages to wow Nina's boss with her multitasking skills, changing Penny's diaper while pitching them ideas on how to take their agency to the next level. She's hired, although Nina is less than thrilled.

In the last scene, Betty and Matthew Applewhite have a normal mother-son conversation in their home while Betty plays the piano. The mood suddenly changes as the two descend into the basement with a tray of food... and a revolver. It is revealed that the Applewhites are keeping someone prisoner in their basement by schackling them- though it is not known who.

episode 2 You Could Drive a Person Crazy

Susan is dismayed to see her ex-husband, Karl, emerge from Edie's house one morning. She runs over to confront him and he admits he's sleeping with Edie and may move in with her. When Edie comes by -- on rollerskates -- to apologize for not telling her, Susan pretends not to care and gets in her car to drive away. Edie brags that Karl told her that sex with her was the best of his life. Susan snaps back that Karl told her he's still in love with her and recently asked her to come back to him. She drives off, Edie still in pursuit, and after their ensuing argument, accidentally backs up into her. Meanwhile, Mike wants to know where their relationship stands now that they're not moving in together. Susan says she wants to keep it "casual," but he doesn't know what that means. "We can still go see a movie," she explains, as he comes closer. "Anything else?" he asks and as he starts to kiss her, she says, "Brunch. We can go to brunch!" and runs away.

Rex's mother Phyllis publicly embarrasses Bree when she starts crying over Rex's death. So Bree slaps her! She apologizes later, but with Bree's uncanny composure and her eagerness to settle Rex's will, Phyllis starts to suspect Bree isn't sorry Rex is dead. The doctor treating Rex finds the note he wrote before he died, forgiving Bree, although it doesn't say why. The suspicious doctor hands it to the lead insurance investigator. The same investigator Phyllis calls when she sees Bree being comforted by the ever opportunistic George.

Gabrielle's outburst last time she visited Carlos - about him being a rich man - means unless he pays a violent inmate off, there'll be hell to pay. She agrees to deliver $7,000 to the guy's girlfriend, but it's for breast implants she doesn't want. Gabrielle quickly agrees she doesn't need them and takes the cash back. The next time she sees Carlos, he's been badly beaten and he orders her to convince the girlfriend to take the money. She refuses, unless he gives her control of their bank account.

Lynette is dismayed to come back from a long day at the office to find the house is a pigsty and Tom already in bed. The final straw is when she realizes he didn't change the bed after the baby threw up in it. She starts changing the bed around him and he tells her she has control issues. She leaves him the bed and goes to sleep on the couch. While flipping channels she comes across a horror film about rats and has a brainstorm. The next day she lets loose a rat in the house and waits for it to have the desired effect. When she comes home, the house is spotless. Tom admits he let the house go too far but that the rat inspired him to clean. And that he killed it with a shovel. She's both pleased and horrified by the news. She goes to take out the trash and apologizes to the dead rat, but also thanks it for saving her marriage.

Susan asks Betty about the strange clanging noises she's been hearing coming from her house in the middle of the night. Betty pretends not to know what she's talking about but then the noise comes again. She explains that it's just her son, Matthew, but then he walks up behind them, having just gotten home. Betty says a quick goodbye, leaving Susan more suspicious than ever. Betty complains to her psychiatrist that she can't sleep, telling him how her husband used to beat her and how she still has nightmares because she wasn't able to prevent him from killing their son. The doctor prescribes a sleeping pill, which she grinds up and puts in the food she brings to the chain-rattling captive in her basement.

episode 03  "You'll Never Get Away from Me"

On a visit to Rex's grave, Bree is horrified to discover that they've dug up his body. Her mother-in-law Phyllis has "forgotten" to tell her about the insurance investigator's suspicions that Rex was poisoned. Bree promptly packs Phyllis's bags and sends her off in a taxi -- and then insists on taking a polygraph test to clear herself of all suspicion. But when they ask her if she loves George, the readout spikes. She tells George that he has to take a polygraph test too, because now they suspect the two of them of conspiring to poison Rex. When he asks why she didn't pass her test, she admits she might have feelings for him after all. George agrees -- and aces his test by telling lies so convincing that the detector shows he even believes them himself.

Carlos tells Gabrielle she's never really apologized for her affair and she throws in his face how much John said he loved her. On a nostalgic impulse, she follows John to his new job and is horrified to see him disappearing inside with the woman whose lawn he's cutting. After seeing them kissing, she grabs an electric hedge trimmer and destroys the woman's rose bushes. When John confronts her, she admits she did it, and asks how he can be with someone new if he still loves her. He says he'll dump the other woman if she wants him back but she reluctantly says no, it's better this way. At last she can go back to Carlos and tell him she is truly sorry. Carlos tells her it's the best anniversary present she ever gave him. And she tells him that his - an Aston Martin she purchased for herself without his knowing - is the best present he's ever given her.

Lynette's new boss, Nina, says no when she asks to take the morning off to bring Parker to school for his first day. So Lynette rigs up a remote camera so she can be there -- only she keeps getting called away to meetings. She maneuvers a piping hot mug of coffee so that it spills in Nina's lap, canceling the meeting. She's then free to talk to Parker through his first day.

Mike goes to see how Felicia is doing and asks if she knows where he might be able to find Zach. She says that after Zach beat her and pushed her down the stairs, she's a little less interested in his well-being. She's also disappointed to hear that he didn't end up killing Paul and warns he'll be back looking for Zach himself.

Susan is furious to find out that Edie is going to accompany Julie on guitar in a church family talent show. She goes to Betty for help in brushing up her piano playing skills, but she catches her at a bad time, just as their mysterious prisoner in the basement has gotten free and had to be forcibly subdued. Betty refuses to help or let her in and explains the red stains on her shirt are because she was making a cherry pie.

episode 4

As part of her normal routine, every Tuesday afternoon Gabrielle visits the Eagle County Prison much to the delight of the prisoners. Each time Gabrielle visited the gestures would become more and more bizarre, as the prisoners became increasingly annoying to Gabrielle. The prisoners turn out to be an advantage to Gabrielle one afternoon when Carlos' lawyer refuses to give Gabrielle a conjugal visit. When the lawyer makes a snide remark about her affair, Gabrielle slaps him. When he tries to retaliate, a prisoner from behind the fence threatens him not to and a prison riot ensues. Carlos' lawyer dismisses his case and Gabrielle must meet a new lawyer. The new lawyer turns out to be a very handsome young man named David Bradley (special guest star Adrian Pasdar). David's past history includes sleeping with many clients' wives. At the moment of their meeting, David tries to pursue her but Gabrielle catches on quick and is not interested. Gabrielle makes her case firm and demanding, she wants a conjugal visit by the following day or to consider himself fired. Gabrielle gets what she wants but wonders of Carlos' future and the future of their family if Carlos is forced to spend 8 years behind bars.

Bree enjoys a pleasant evening talking with George outside of her home which is rudely interrupted by her son, Andrew. When George refuses to leave, Andrew begins to shove George which ends with Bree having to break the two up. Bree wants everyone to get to know each other so she plans a dinner for Friday evening. At the dinner while Bree and Danielle are washing dishes, Andrew fills George in on Bree and Rex's sex life before his death. The discussion ends with Andrew imitating Bree's pleasurable moan which she eventually does when she bites into her peach cobbler. George quickly leaves when Bree will not take his side on Andrew's bad conduct. The following day over watermelon, Bree tells George that they should not start their relationship so quickly since she and the children need time to grieve. George understands but then continues to ask Bree about Andrew's experience at Camp Hennessy (which was several months before) and whether he should go back for counselling. Bree decides that only if he does something drastic he will be sent back. At Andrew's swim meet, George arrives uninvited and sits next to Bree. He gives her a token of affection by replacing her broken china pattern. George then tries to kiss Bree. Andrew sees this and jumps out of the pool and on to George. The two fight until the coach steps in and pulls Andrew aside. Bree cares for a bloody George and that evening Andrew packs his bags for Camp Hennessy.

Susan tries to bring back the "spark" with her relationship with Mike. Susan feels that she is finally ready to accept Zach into her life and would like to help him find Zach before anything else happens. The following day, Mike and Susan walk through the park and hand out fliers containing a picture of Zach on them. Shortly after, Susan takes a break to buy ice cream and spots Zach sitting on a park bench. When Zach sees her he quickly runs away and Susan chases after him. Susan finally gets closer but Zach shoos her away with a large piece of lumber. When she meets up with Mike, she says she has not seen him. Later at Gabrielle's over wine, Susan tells the wives of her encounter with Zach and asks what she should do. Bree decides that they should help Zach since he was Mary Alice's son but Gabrielle thinks Zach is a freak. Susan returns to the park the next day and meets Zach lying on a bench. Susan tells him not to run away but he cannot since he hurt his foot running from her earlier. Susan buys him lunch at a local diner and assures him that his father, Paul is alright. Susan tells him that because of what he has done in the past he has hurt a lot of people including Julie. Susan thinks of her daughter and decides to give Zach money to go and find Paul in Utah. She goes on her way and does not tell Mike of their meeting.

Lynette has been very busy at work and has had little time for family life due to her long hours. Lynette and Tom's youngest son, Parker seems to take it the hardest and creates an imaginary friend, Mrs. Mulberry (a parody of Mary Poppins) to cope. When Lynette finds out, she tries to be more involved, but wherever Parker goes Mrs. Mulberry must follow. After Parker's behavior and protection of Mrs. Mulberry becomes more and more demanding (e.g. a desk and easel) and Lynette is called in for a parent conference she decides it's time for Mrs. Mulberry to leave. Lynette throws "Mrs. Mulberry's" umbrella in the trash and prays that it will be gone by morning. The umbrella falls out of the garbage truck though. Parker begins to look frantically for the umbrella but Lynette tells him that she is gone. However when they leave for school, "Mrs. Mulberry" is patiently waiting in the street but as Parker runs to get her a truck drives past and destroys the umbrella. Parker runs to Lynette and she tells him that Mrs. Mulberry is gone and will not be coming back. That evening, Lynette sobs in bed as she feels guilty of what she did to "Mrs. Mulberry" but Tom reassures her that she did the right thing for Parker.

episode 05 "They Asked Me Why I Believe In You"

Lynette tries a variety of ways to make working for her boss, Nina, more tolerable, but nothing works until she takes Nina out for a drink. Lynette finds that the only time Nina is ever shy is when it comes to meeting men, which is not a problem for Lynette. So Lynette introduces Nina to a man in the bar, and finds Nina’s mood markedly improved the next morning when Nina shows up to the office wearing the same clothes from the night before. Later in the episode, though, Lynette discovers that Nina wants her to go out drinking every night to help her find men. Lynette encourages Nina to find another drinking partner, but Nina complains that the other women in the office are competition; Lynette isn’t because she’s married. Lynette endures five nights of this, missing valuable time with her family, before she realizes that the only way out of this situation is to become Nina’s competition. Lynette goes wild in the bar, finds herself doing shots with a group of men and dances on the bar. Nina sits miserably in the corner and presumably never invites Lynette out drinking again.

Susan has a meeting with her book agent and longtime friend Lonny, but is shocked when she finds out that Lonny has been fired for improperly handling his clients’ money. She asks him if he has stolen any of her money and he denies it. She decides, temporarily, to remain loyal to Lonny and his new agency, because she considers him “family.” However, when she discusses the matter with Mike, she discovers he is less willing to forgive and trust people. This makes Susan nervous because she hasn’t told Mike that she paid Zach to leave town to find his father, and she’s afraid of what will happen if he finds out. Susan then goes to visit Lonny, but discovers when she arrives that Lonny is broke and his family has left him. He also reveals that he illegally used some of her money too, contrary to what he had told her previously. Susan tells him that she can’t trust him any more, but says that they will always be friends. He interprets her words as something more and tries to kiss her, and she runs out of the house.

Gabrielle introduces her attractive new lawyer, David Bradley, to Carlos, but Carlos is immediately jealous of Bradley and refuses to let Bradley represent him. Gabrielle and Carlos later have a heated exchange at the prison’s couples’ counseling meeting about her choice of a lawyer. Gabrielle tells Bradley, who continues to be flirtatious with her, that he must go back and deny to Carlos that he’s interested in her, but he does something different: he tells Carlos that he does want to sleep with Gabrielle, but the only way that that won’t happen is if Carlos keeps him on as his lawyer, since Bradley could be disbarred for sleeping with his client’s wife. This tactic works and Carlos insists that Bradley be his lawyer.

After Bree threatens to sue the police, Detective Barton decides to release Rex's body to her so she can reinter him. However, as Bree is waiting for Rex’s body to be put in the hearse, Barton comes up to her and tries to get her to confess to poisoning Rex. He shows her the note that Rex wrote before he died that says "I understand and I forgive you." Bree is shocked that Rex believed that she had poisoned him. Bree had previously invited her friends to a small reburial service for Rex, but when they show up they find that Bree has moved Rex’s grave away from the family’s plot, saying "If you think I’m going to lay next to someone for eternity who thinks I’m a murderer, you’re crazy." She then proceeds to throw her wedding ring into Rex's grave.

Betty is over at Edie’s house retrieving some of her mail that was accidentally delivered to Edie, when she sees on the news that the police arrested a man in Chicago for the death of a "Melanie Foster." She goes home and begins writing an anonymous letter to the Chicago police saying that they’ve arrested the wrong person. When she goes down to the basement to talk to Caleb about the recent developments, Matthew sees the letter on the kitchen table and tells his mother not to send it. She says that Caleb didn’t know what he was doing, that it wasn’t his fault. Matthew says that they won’t care that Caleb is "slow"; they’ll execute him anyway. Caleb, who has escaped from his cell, is listening to them talk in the kitchen, but when he hears this, he returns to the basement.

episode 6 "I Wish I Could Forget You"

George and Bree have an elegant dinner together without the company of her children. The two enjoy pleasant conversation which leads to George unexpectedly kissing her. Bree has no objections and continues to kiss him however she asks him to stop when she has an itch on her neck. Immediately George assumes it is something she ate but Bree believes her hives come from something much different. She shoos George out of the house and her hives comes under control. The following day, Bree visits her therapist Dr. Goldfine who advises her that her sudden break-outs occur because she still feels that she is married. Bree shakes off the suggestion but knows deep down that it is true. She decides that she will have to overcome this since she would like to continue to see George again. That evening, Bree calls George to ask him if he would like to accompany her on a romantic overnight to a hotel. George happily accepts and makes hotel reservations. However, when they arrive at the hotel, Bree once again breaks out into hives. George manages to stop the hives by recommending that the two stay in separate rooms. Later, the two have dinner and George gives Bree an antihistamine to help with her hives. George walks Bree back to her room and puts her to bed. As Bree sleeps George observes her and takes off his tie. Bree wakes up hours later to find George watching her. She apologizes for her drunkenness and that George could have slept beside her. George then tells her that he would like to stay but is afraid her rash will return. Bree tells him that she will have to get over it since she loves him and wants to be with him. The two proceed to kiss and make love. As George sleeps, Bree sits in an arm chair with a bathrobe on wondering if she made the right decision.

Gabrielle walks into the courthouse where she is greeted by David who advises her to quickly change her wardrobe into something more decent. Gabrielle refuses but David insists. As they walk out, they are followed by a man named Louis who had a restraining order filed against him. He asks David if he can have the order pulled but the woman who filed it would beg to differ. Louis then takes out a gun and points it at David who immediately pushes Gabrielle out of the way. The gun fires but David blocks it with his briefcase. Louis quickly runs and throws the gun at David. David takes possession of the gun however when he turns around he is mistakenly shot by a police officer. Gabrielle visits David the following day at the hospital where he is recovering. Gabrielle proceeds to feed him and he wonders whether he should keep the case or not. On the day of Carlos' hearing, David asks the judge for a recess since he cannot represent Carlos. He tells Gabrielle that he has feelings for her. Carlos tells Gabby that he needs to get David back even if that means sleeping with him which he believes is all part of the plan. Carlos is clearly joking and thinks that this is all part of Gabrielle and David's plan. He goes on to say that he would rather be in prison than to have his wife sleep with the lawyer to get him out. The following day, David meets Gabrielle at her house where he follows her to the bedroom. She gives him her offer which involves a secret affair and concludes that she cannot divorce Carlos due to the guilt and humiliation. David proceeds to kiss her but she stops him when she knows that David is doing it out of lust and not of love. She demands that he be in court the following morning ready to defend Carlos.

Lynette is questioned on her fashion sense by Nina when all of her clothes seem outdated and stained. Lynette appeases her co-worker, her boss and ultimately herself when she buys new designer suits which Tom immediately asks her to return them due to their expensive price. Lynette agrees thinking about her family's welfare but cannot resist wearing her favorite new suit to a business meeting the following day. Lynette carefully hides the price tags on the coat but the skirt tag pops out and Nina decides to help her by pulling it off. Lynette is somewhat disappointed but is also very satisfied and tries to win Tom over by buying him a new set of golf clubs. Tom hesitates at first but decides that sometimes parents need something to make them feel special too.

Susan and her mother Sophie prepare for Sophie's upcoming marriage when the question of whether Mike will ask Susan to marry him comes up. Mike advises the two to keep their expectations high but not to expect it anytime soon since he wants it to be spontaneous. Meanwhile Susan discovers Paul Young's arrival home and with the other neighbors calls the police since she believes he killed Mrs. Huber. When the police arrives, they ask the neighbors the reason why Paul should be arrested and Susan goes to fetch Mike. When the officer asks Mike if he is in possession of Mrs. Huber's journals or whether he heard a confession from Paul, he automatically denies it. Susan looks shocked and the entire neighborhood returns to what they had been doing previously. That evening, Susan asks Mike his reasons. Mike gives several valuable explanations since he was in possession of an unregistered gun, violated his probation and demanded a confession while holding a man at gunpoint. Mike continues that he would probably be in more trouble than Paul Young would be if the two were both arrested. Susan understands but is still hurt by Mike's answer. The next afternoon Susan is visited by Paul who asks her of Zach's whereabouts while holding his missing person flier he found in his mail. Paul picks up a knife and slowly moves toward Susan demanding where he is. Susan tells him she gave Zach money to go to Utah to find him and that she would have took him home but he still had feelings for Julie. Paul leaves thankful for the answer but angry of what she did. Mike confronts Paul on his reasons for returning to Wisteria Lane and when he tells him that Susan sent Zach away to Utah, Mike quickly runs towards Susan's home where he demands from her if she sent Zach away. Susan tries to explain herself but when she replies "Yes" he runs out of the house disgusted. Susan chases after him in her mother's wedding dress, telling him she loves him and begging for a second chance. Mike drives away and Susan sits in the middle of the street sobbing as Paul Young coldly stares back at her. At that moment, Bree, Lynette and Gabrielle stop what they are doing to comfort Susan.

episode 7  "Color and Light"

Lynette Scavo has always known that her children were different from the other neighborhood boys since Porter, Parker and Preston like to play different games. When several of the mothers did not want anymore to make play dates with Lynette's kids, she discovers that if the boys' play dates disappear that her free time will also. Lynette then finds her twins playing with a new group of friends (also twins) who have just moved in the area. When Norma, the boys' mother asks Lynette if the boys are alright, Lynette decides that they are fine and that they are only playing. The two decide that they should arrange another play date. Lynette enjoys her freedom but when it comes their turn to host the boys, the Harper boys bring along with them a video. When Porter and Preston leave the room, Lynette wonders if they are becoming bored with the other boys. Lynette enters the twins' bedroom where she finds Parker and the other boys watching their parents' homemade sextape. Immediately Lynette blocks the television before Norma's breast is exposed and ejects the tape and keeps it in her possession for the time being. When Lynette and Tom approach Norma and Leonard about their tape, Norma panics feeling outed and ashamed. Leonard has the opposite effect and decides to show Lynette and Tom their private film studio where they shoot and produce all of their videos. Lynette and Tom look on in horror and decide not to have another play date with Norma's kids.

Bree is surprised by George when he tells her that he has purchased a house in the neighborhood. Bree feels happy for George but she discovers his mother and a realtor are hiding in the other room. When the women leave them alone, George proposes to Bree. Bree freezes up but seeing that he is in the presence of George's mom, she says "ok" causing a celebration for the two. Bree then has second thoughts when she talks it over with Albert Goldfine, her marriage-counselor-turned-therapist. Dr. Goldfine asks if this is what she really wants after her previous marriage was taken away from her so suddenly. Bree knows in her heart that she loves George as a friend, but not as a spouse and would love to do things with him even if that means getting married against her will. When she comes next to visit George, many of his friends are there and Bree is introduced to all of them. A friend of George says that he made a bet that he was gay, and demands proof in nine months. As Bree seems to not get the point of what "9 months" mean, George talks of the possibility of children. Bree walks out with George following behind her. Bree tells George that she cannot marry him and when he asks why she tells him that she had talked it over with her therapist. George says that they can marry later. Bree drives away as George gives a cold look and walks back into the party. The following day, George follows Dr. Goldfine jogging and when Goldfine least expects it, George comes from behind and throws him off of the bridge he had been jogging on.

Gabrielle is beginning to show signs of her pregnancy which she is not liking since her weight is going up and she is expecting old friends from her modeling days to arrive. Gabrielle tries her best to cover up her pregnancy so that the women won't tease her for beginning the journey to becoming yet another bored, fat housewife - which Gabrielle vowed she'd never become. Gabrielle goes on a 48-hour crash diet, but still is unable to fit into the gorgeous gown. With help from Bree, she manages to get into the dress and Bree gives her the advice that parenthood is a cherished gift and that some things are hard to cover up. Gabrielle smiles and continues to prepare for the arrival of her friends. When they arrive, they automatically see that Gabrielle is pregnant and instead of making fun of her, they congratulate her. Gabrielle feels proud of her former friends' acceptance but finally understands that her true friends are the ones that do not judge.

Susan gets the last of her things from Mike's house and the two part ways. Susan then witnesses her ex-husband Karl breaking up with Edie. The following evening, Karl visits Susan who is alone and the two begin to drink a bottle of wine. Karl tells Susan the reason that he and Edie broke up was because he kept an old picture of Susan underneath his mattress. Edie saw this as a sign of Karl's recurring love for Susan even though they are divorced. The following morning, Julie arrives home to find her two parents in bed after a night of unexpected romance. Julie looks in disgust and quickly leaves. Later, Susan tells Karl that their fling the night prior was a one-night stand since she is clearly not ready and unwilling to get back together with him. Karl feels differently but after giving serious consideration gets back together with Edie. Edie then unexpectedly thanks Susan for whatever she did to reunite the two. Susan feels as if she made a difference but still feels lonely because of her judgment.

Betty and Matthew discover that Caleb has escaped shortly after their confrontation. Caleb's disappearance leads them to snooping around the neighborhood for any traces of Caleb. Matthew searches the street but is soon drawn to Danielle Van De Kamp when he searches Bree's backyard. He lies and tells her that he is there to ask her out. Danielle surprisingly says "yes" and Matthew leaves the yard happy. That night however, after Gabrielle finished entertaining her guests she goes upstairs to find a box of ice cream half-eaten causing her to think she has an intruder in her house. Gabrielle soon comes eye to eye with Caleb and quickly runs away before he does anything dangerous. Her escape comes with a price though when she trips and falls down the stairs. Gabrielle lands on the floor helpless and witnesses Caleb leaving the house. Bree arrives back at Gabrielle with her sewing kit but immediately calls an ambulance when she finds Gabrielle on the floor. Gabrielle is escorted into the ambulance van as she clutches her baby's sonogram picture.
